Since Blizzard made the authenticator mandatory, I have been completely locked out of my own account and I am not the only one. What Blizzard calls 'for my own safety' is in practice nothing more than an exclusionary measure for anyone who does not have or want a smartphone.

The problem is simple:

I do not have a smartphone and I refuse to purchase one.

SMS verification is no longer offered.

The physical authenticator (keychain fob) is no longer available.

Email verification does not help, because after that I still run into the authenticator.

Blizzard assumes that every gamer owns a smartphone. That is a shortsighted and discriminatory assumption. Anyone without a smartphone is simply locked out without a working alternative.

And I am not alone. On forums and complaint websites, there are countless players stuck with the same problem:

Accounts are randomly 'security locked' and automatic unlocking does not work.

Even those who have used a physical authenticator for years cannot switch to another solution without first linking a phone number, something that is impossible for many.

Players are forced to purchase a newer phone because the old authenticator app no longer works and the new Battle.net app requires a newer iOS version.

Support is often unreachable or responds with generic, useless answers.

Blizzard is forcing customers to own a smartphone or be locked out. That is unacceptable. Third-party solutions such as WinAuth and WinBMA have existed for years and prove that a Windows authenticator is technically feasible, but Blizzard refuses to do anything about it.

Conclusion: Blizzard does not care about customers without a smartphone. Their 'security policy' is nothing more than a cheap exclusionary measure. If you do not have a smartphone, you are out of luck regardless of how many years you have been a customer or how much money you have spent.

I have a authenticator that is an app from playstore,i I have a different phone number now and the authenticator is under old number so i cant login at all,i want to update number but cant. ive been playing since you guys went online,im a vanilla,im 65yrs now and still playing.but because of this prmblem i havent been able to.

i went through support and i filled out the questionaire and they claim my answers didnt quite match which i find ubelievable since ive been playing for years,i dont remember exact dates of when i created the account but i believe it was year 2005,my battle tag is Frostyfeet 120781,i dont have packs, i have paid with bankcard and sent an id for a wow tickect purchares this past june, i dont pay with gold,my past games i played starcraft classic and hearthstone diablo,ived done a beta game,dont know if anymore,i have this year 2026 paid a year subscription and purchased midnite,the only number i found on the authenticator is v1.32.0.43(1320****) i dont know if this is serial number it dosent say, all i want to do is update phone number so i can play.

this promblem has been keeping me from playing for almost two weeks now and im getting angry cause its not getting solved and i paid for it.please help me get me get acces to my account that i have had for years. respectfully Pamela Demers

Blizzard entertainment has consistently sued offshoots of any spin-offs to their games and clients. They have claimed intellectual rights over people who get creative in creating maps in their engine's, has sued independent producers of content (Dota2), and independent fans who manipulated old client software to play games in a fashion that brings greater enjoyment for themselves and communities.

Blizzard has adopted what seems to be an AI slop of cash grab schemes that has degraded their product to such a low, you can't speak on their forums without paying a subscription. They're trying to create an information bubble that supports them having better product than they actually do. People will always have the right to express their own creativity with things they get their hands on, and Blizzard will continue to sue those who're successful, and turn a blind eye to those who aren't.

Solely a money motivated company. Even it's own homepage has turned into nothing but a garbage plastic shop.
